Art for all ages
“The world always seems brighter when you’ve made something that wasn’t there before.”
With all of life’s choices and challenges these days, all of the things we can do and learn and sign ourselves up for, consider art.
“Children in particular, as well as adults, they say ‘I can draw anything I want. I can paint anything I want.’ So when you talk about sports or other activities, even school, there's a real formality about it. There’s a lot of regulations rather than structure and rules so when people come to the Art School, they get to express themselves as individuals and literally open up different avenues and discover who they are in the process,” says Art School Director Tom Joule.
The Boca Raton Museum of Art School provides all sorts of adult and youth classes year-round that include painting, ceramics, photography and jewelry, fashion and textile design.
“It’s a place where people come to be creative. The form of expression takes many forms from painting, which is one of the most popular and when I say painting I mean watercolor, acrylics, oil painting from realism to abstract. We also have ceramics - bowls, sculpture. We also offer photography classes, jewelry design, fashion design, textile design, printmaking…broad array….and each has subsets,” adds Joule.
The Art School and Museum, originally known as the Art Guild, have been part of the Boca Raton community for over 40 years.
According to The Boca Raton Historical Society, art classes were first offered along the historic Palmetto Park Road property in 1969. It became an official art school by the mid-90’s and now there are plans and hopes for future growth.
“Until you walk through this place, you're not going to feel the magic and when you walk through here you’re not going to want to leave,” says Joule.
